Norman Saunders (1907-1989) was one of these old school pulp art masters of the 1930s-1950s who could paint realistic and fantastic scenes with equal enthusiasm and unfailing professionalism. The scarcely-clad ladies on his pulp covers were invariably beguiling, fetching, and beautiful – but seemed to be stuck in a pretty standard state of distress that no hero could reliably rectify from one pulp issue to another.
